6th Grade Boys win Bob Hilligoss Memorial Tournament!
Updated on 03/04/2025

6th Grade Boys went undefeated in the Bob Hilligoss Memorial Basketball Tournament. The Tournament that was created by Mr. Hilligoss was officially deemed the Bob Hilligoss Memorial 6th Grade Basketball Tournament before games began this year to honor the impact that he had. Below is what was read before the event with family members and former players in attendance.

In 1967 Mr. Bob Hilligoss was the class sponsor of the eighth grade class that became the graduating class of 1971.Mr. Hilligoss was a master fundraiser and suggested the class put on a 6th grade basketball jamboree. No one had heard of this and he explained it would be five teams playing each other one quarter. At the time there were no sixth grade tournaments around. The five original teams were Divernon, Auburn, Pawnee, Virden, and Girard. The First jamboree was won by Divernon. It was played in the old gym and it was packed! It became a great fundraiser and was taken over by the FHA organization, followed by the Divernon and Auburn Jr. High Athletic Departments. The teams have changed over the years, but the Jamboree has continued strong as it approaches 60 years! It’s all because of the vision of Mr. Hilligoss!

The Trojans fittingly went undefeated and won the tournament. Congratulations to all on a wonderful night in Divernon!
